What is Zakat?
Zakat is the third Pillar of Islam; it’s also an obligatory act of worship payable each year to those in need by every able Muslim. In His generosity, Allah (swt) gives the donor the beautiful opportunity to purify their wealth and their souls through Zakat.
What is the Zakat Percentage?
Your Zakat donation should amount to 2.5% of your total wealth accumulated over the year. As an example, if your total assets (after any debts owed) amounted to $10,000, then you would be required to pay $250 as Zakat.

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must have—after calculating necessary expenses—to be eligible to contribute zakat. Nisab is equivalent to the current value of 3 ounces of gold. The nisab we’ve calculated for our zakat calculator is based on the most-recent report available to us (disclaimer: this number may change daily depending on fluctuations in the gold exchange rate).
